Smartphone Stories - Baw Baw - Bec - "Kulturhus"
Kulturhus, 70 secs
Bec Vandyk-Hamilton is a community artist in West Gippsland, in eastern Victoria, and she is preparing an old portable classroom for use as a Culture House - a place where community members can gather socially and share in creative expression. The 'Kulturhus' will be Bec's studio to continue her arts practice, and it will also be used for arts therapy, arts groups, and gatherings. The portable classroom is from the early 1980s, and it has been sitting in a paddock for over 10 years so the renovations are extensive, but rewarding. After the isolation of the Covid-19 lockdowns, Bec hopes that the local arts community can again get used to regular social gatherings to support each other, and to share their art and their philosophy.
